September Forum
September 19, 2013We had a great forum today as usual due to the thirty or so lively and varied members of Islington Pensioners Forum who turned up as well as speakers Gerry Campbell, the police borough commander and Catherine West, the leader of the council.
But first up was Jackie Ambrosini from Angel BID who works with the business community around the Angel to make improvements to the environment. She wanted to know what kind of things pensioners think would inprove the area, for example, toilets, benches etc. If you’d like to contribute, fill in this form and they will get to work on it! angelaim survey older people
Gerry Campbell gave a talk about crime issues and the reduction that has happened on his watch although he is always vigilant to improve services and some members raised concerns about lack of police visibility in some areas which he promised to look into and encouraged members to report where they thought there was a lack.
Catherine West arrived having been busy protecting the freedom pass yet again. She commented on the huge health benefit both mental and physical that it brings to older people by allowing them to travel without concern for cost and we know many people would suffer from isolation and ill health without it. Catherines’ last day as leader will be in October when she is standing down to concentrate on her bid to become MP for Hornsey and Wood Green. The forum wishes her well and thanks her for all her support to the pensioners.
October Forum will see Greg Foxsmith giving an historical crime talk, come along and enjoy. Thursday 17th at 10.30am-12.30pm in committee room 1 at the town hall, Upper Street. N1
